Fitness Gurus, please advise: I want to start slowly into a fitness routine...? | |
Should I jog around the block before or after I've had a bowl of cereal?
I'm 39-ish, not totally out of shape, but haven't exercised regularly in a while, 5'-8", and 170 lbs.

1Hi Davey, I don't know your age, state of health, or current weight.
If you are over 35, get the OK from your Doctor, before starting a fitness program, infact it's a good idea anyway if you're new/have not exercised for a while.
I would not recommend running if you are very overweight or have joint problems. Start by walking or cycling, ideally for 20 mins, but don't worry if you can only manage 2 mins to start with. Try and increase the time gradually. You can then start to run if and when you want to.
If you are new to exercise, try to eat at least 2 hours before you work out, so that your body has finished digesting your meal before you train.
You can train before eating - but I would wait for a couple of months before doing that.
Don't forget to drink water before, during and after working out.
Remember, don't try and increase your fitness too quickly - you will feel discouraged and are likely to injure yourself.
Day by day, little by little, you'll see results and start to feel better!
Good luck!!!
